Pramek’s own, Dr. John Landry’s, new article on the concepts behind a fixed versus a folder.  We have a video about this releasing soon, but this is a great article to get your mental juices flowing.

A lot of people have said, ‘But I can’t carry that where I live’ and here’s our answer to that.  As he said, it’s not always an option, but when it is, it’s an option worth considering…!

One thing you can do is make sure that you modify (if it’s legal to do so) certain aspects of your folding knife, such as what is common in the US by sanding down the the release lever, to make sure under stress your convulsive grip doesn’t accidentally close the folder. Plenty of ways to make sure if you can’t have a fixed that you make your folder as ready for a combative environment as possible. We recommend if you buy a folder spend a day looking for the weaknesses on the mechanics of the folder and fixing these to ensure you don’t find these when the knife closes in a situation you need it most…with knife defense, you don’t want to learn on the job.

Why you Should Consider Carrying a Fixed Blade Knife for Defensive Purposes
